Tennessee’s men’s basketball team is ranked in the top 25 for the first time since 2010.
The basketvols are ranked number 24 in the new A.P. Top 25 poll that was released Monday. UT is coming off a road win against Georgia Tech Sunday night, and a dominant home victory over Mercer last week.
Tennessee did not play great Sunday night, but they still managed to beat a good ACC team in their first away game of the season. The Vols had 4 guys score double digits, including Lamonte Turner dropping 24 off the bench. Turner was a perfect 9 for 9 from the freethrow line, and he also hit 3 big threes. Jordan Bowden, Grant Williams, and Admiral Schofield were also in double figures.
The vols had an impressive run at The Battle 4 Atlantis during Thanksgiving week. Tennessee upset number 17 Purdue, and gave number 5 Villanova all they could handle. Lipscomb heads to Knoxville Saturday, and then the Vols will be off until the 17th when North Carolina will come to town.
The SEC has 4 teams ranked in the A.P. Top 25, including 2 teams in the top 10. Conference play will start in a little under a month, and look for the SEC to be one of the most competitive conferences in the county. Do not be surprised if the SEC gets 5 or more teams in the NCAA Tournament this year.
